Holidays for the Environmentally Conscious Skier

Dozens avid skiers will shortly be trying to find their ski trousers and dashing forth looking for the largest snow.

And without doubt the results of our carbon footprint will be roughly as far down the list of vacation essentials as a Christmas tree after the Christmas holidays.

Only last year, a sluggish snow made the the broadsheets and tourists were panic struck about the smattering of snow disappearing almost as soon as they put down.

Holiday organisation Chalet1802, placed at the bottom of Mont Blanc in Chamonix village in the Alps, is one of the only independent firms to go carbon negative and offer skiers an environmentally friendly alternative when booking their ski vacations.

Chalet1802 owner Fran stated: Last season was quite a surprise with the most warm wintertime in 50 yrs in the French Alps. Ski resorts like Alpe d’Huez, Les Deux Alpes and La Tania has difficulty. It was balmy and the snow didn’t last so much of the early skiing season in the mountains was uneven. We chose to go carbon negative to help preserve the ski resort.

Fran said: We are not seeking to dictate to punters only I feel it is valuable to provide the guests the option without augmenting the cost of the stay. If the guest book with us and goes on holiday to our Chamonix catered chalet they may more than off set their carbon footprint and we absorb the additional prices. Of course we still have a sauna and a hot tub - customers want luxuriousness but not at the expense of the alps mountains, so we looked at ways of diminishing the results of a skier flying over here for a snowboarding holiday.”

The company have moreover joined with charity Climate Care, who attacks climate change by making C02 deductions on behalf of people and companies.
