Home Security

April 28th, 2008

Security should be one
of the most important considerations for your home. Why fill
your home with your personal effects and decorate it if the home
can be so easily burgled? It makes more sense to have a security
system fitted that will deter intruders and send them elsewhere.

This article is designed to give you an idea of the sort of intruder
alarm protection you’ll need in a private house. It does not
replace the advice of a professional Security Surveyor/System
Designer from a reputable security installer. The article will
give you a degree of understanding and help you to discuss your
home’s security with a security professional.

Christie Intruder Alarms
(CIA) consider that the best way to protect residential
property is by using trap protection. Trap protection is a
strategy for protecting a property without fitting sensors in
every room.

Statistics show that villains rarely break in through windows at
the front of a house. They are even less likely to stay in one
room and leave through the same front window; they are more
likely to go straight to the master bed room. So fitting sensors
in the rear rooms of the house and in the hallway is often
considered sufficient for the ground floor.

Also as kitchens have heat sources (boilers, fridges, ovens,
washing machines and such) and hard surfaces, they are generally
considered unstable areas and rarely contain items of value.
Therefore, as a rule, a kitchen should not be protected with
PIR.

Through our 35+ years of experience, we have learnt that even
dual technology detectors are unsuitable for kitchens, as the
microwave motion sensor will detect movement through glass, thin
walls and will even be triggered by water moving in pipes.

There are various reasons for adopting a trap protection
strategy. The first is to limit the false alarm potential of a
system and the more detectors a property has, the higher the
false alarm potential. All detectors (even the top of the range
ones that CIA use) sometimes false alarm. These false alarms are
becoming increasingly onerous due to the new hard line that
Police Forces are taking regarding attendance. False alarms
result in withdrawn Police attendance.

Another important factor is cost - using a good quality sensor
would make it expensive to protect each room.

As external alarm boxes are a good deterrent, just having an
alarm system installed by a recognized intruder alarm installer
should deter most villains, whether they are opportunists or
professionals. After all, burglars don’t know whether or not
your system is monitored by a central station who will alert the
Police in the instance of an alarm - it’s easier for them to go
next door or somewhere that doesn’t have an alarm system.

Burglar
Alarms

Burglars, and indeed any intruders, are overwhelmingly deterred
by a burglar
alarm (or, as we say in the trade, an ‘intruder alarm’) more
than any other form of home
security. It is better to take preventative measures as
opposed to the ’shutting the stable door after the horse has
bolted’. You are far more likely to be burgled if you have been
burgled before. Villains are renowned for returning to the same
properties.

Break-in’s are a unfortunate fact of life. Being broken into in
a residential property is obviously more distressing than a
burglary in the work place and although vandalism is rare, the
loss of sentimental artefacts can be most upsetting.

As the Number One security installer in the South of England, Christie Intruder Alarms (CIA)
Ltd use a combination of detection devices. The most popular
devices are the PIR (Passive Infra-Red) detectors, magnetic reed
contacts, breaking glass detectors, infra-red beams, pressure
pads, case wiring, vibration detectors and dual technology
sensors (sensors that combine Passive Infra-Red with Microwave
or Ultrasonic detection).

Always choose a company that has been awarded the prestigious
NSI NACOSS Gold Medal. The Gold Medal is only awarded to
companies who consistently deliver an outstanding performance in
security management.

NSI is an acronym of the
National Security Inspectorate. Formerly known as NACOSS, the NSI is an independent,
not-for-profit approvals body providing inspection services for
the security and fire industries.

Monitoring -
Alarm Receiving

For complete peace of mind, many people choose to have their
intruder alarms monitored. If an alarm is monitored, then, when
it detects an intruder it automatically sends a signal via the
phone line and/or cellular network to an ARC (Alarm Receiving
Centre - these used to be referred to as Central Stations or
Monitoring Stations) and the appropriate action is taken. CIA
uses Southern Monitoring Services (SMS) Ltd - http://www.smon.co.uk

New Police/Constabulary Service guidelines (the ACPO Policy on Response to
Security - ACPO are the Association of Chief Police Officers
of England, Wales and Northern Ireland ) state that the
Police will now only attend monitored alarms that confirm alarm
activations (unless installed pre October 2002).

Confirmation is received when a second detection device is
triggered during the same intrusion; therefore, something is
definitely on site and moving around.

On receiving the first activation, the ARC will notify a
keyholder but if a second detection device is triggered in the
same activation, this confirms to the ARC that ’something’ is
definitely on site and moving around, and the Police are
instantly alerted.

If an intruder is detected, a signal is sent from the alarm
system using either a standard digital communicator, BT RedCare, BT RedCare GSM or CSL DualComm, via the
phone line and/or a cellular network.

A standard digital communicator works by sending signals via the
ordinary analogue telephone network, as does BT RedCare,
however, with RedCare the ARC are alerted if the phone line
fails, either through attack or a genuine line fault, as the
line is constantly monitored.

BT RedCare GSM and CSL DualComm send alarm activations via the
phone line and a cellular network to for increased security.
These forms of signalling are ideal if your insurance company
requires your alarm to transmit ‘confirmation’ signals after a
line cut.

Your home is your greatest asset. Why leave it vulnerable when
it clearly pays to have your house protected by security
professionals.

related issues from their headquarters in Waterlooville,

Help To Ace Your Dance Audition

April 27th, 2008

An audition is the time that you want to shine and be your best. You want to make this audition seem like it’s the most important thing, and, actually for the moment, it is!

The first thing you need to do is what any other athlete does - look after and nurture your own body. You don’t want to spend the night before an audition out drinking with your friends. You want to relax and get a good nights sleep. You may want to consider a relaxing massage the day before.

On a daily basis eat a healthy diet, get proper rest and make time to relax. If you learn meditation and practice it, it will help reduce the stress of every day too. Keep your body in tip top physical shape by continuing with your regular exercise routine. You may want to pay more attention to your physical appearance right before an audition - refresh that hair cut or color.

A lot of choreographers have started out right where you are today, in the chorus line. As dance is such a creative endeavor most choreographers depend on their gut instincts when they pick music, and dancers. They’re looking at you from the minute you talk in the door. They want to see how you are interacting with others. How confident do you appear? Have you smiled? How relaxed do you look?

Remember that attending any audition is a good learning experience, they give you the opportunity to learn a lot about yourself. Remember that not being chosen is a part of the audition process and don’t take it personally. Take any criticism you receive and turn it into a positive. Instead of resenting the criticism you might receive take it upon yourself to improve yourself. Work on your moves if you need to. You’ll want to be ready for your next audition.

Take Hoodia diet pills with a Smart Diet, not a Starvation Diet

April 27th, 2008

Could Hoodia weight loss supplements fulfill the expectations of dieters and impact the United States obesity troubles? Today fifty million Americans are attempting to slim down with just a low five percent sustaining the weight loss they are seeking. Can Hoodia, the new comer on the scene, assist you to be in that small percentage that gets there, one of the few that will be able to lose the pounds and not have it them come back? From initial reports it may have a chance if these Hoodia pills are not abused and taken in an improper way. The Hoodia Gordonii African weight loss supplement can’t do all the work by itself; you can’t just take this pill, sit back and watch it do a miraculous make over on your body. Hoodia will help you to not be hungry, but this is only the beginning of the process; what follows needs to be regular meals with good nutrition and some form of physical exercise.
If Hoodia is going to accomplish what no other diet pill has ever done, help people to keep the weight off; dieters are going to need to look at this supplement in a different way than they have all the pills that have come before. We need to look at why it is that we have so many supplements for dieters on the store shelves and yet just a small number of people in reality lose the weight? To look at the state of obesity in America effectively you need to step aside from the examination of diet pills and weight loss supplements like Hoodia and observe the bigger picture. Who are American’s embodying in their daily lives that have them have such problems with their weight. To follow are some rationales I believe people in United States have adopted with regard to weight loss; holding these ideas could play a role in making it difficult to lose the weight and keep it off.
• Being preoccupied with our weight; we think being thin equates to a happy life. We think we will find romance, the best career and friends if we are at the right weight. Because of this we will jump on virtually any diet fad or diet pill that comes along.
• Idolizing everybody in the media; we look up to these people and want to be like the people we see on television, films and magazines. Something that we don’t understand is that for movie stars and people on TV being thin is just a part of their profession. They are required to be a particular size to fit in their character and obtain the acting jobs they want to get; they then have their trainer’s and dietitians work with them to help accomplish it. You have to think about the fact that these actors and actresses in show business also make up a very small part of the general population.
• Accessibility of junk food; our lives are busy, fast paced and stressed; because of this our lives suffer in the domain of eating good foods and physical exercise. We don’t think we have the time to eat right and work out so we take easiest route which is fast food, snacking on junk food, eating late at night with no exercise; all this is an equation for being overweight.
• Yo Yo dieting; we go from dieting to not dieting and from one diet program to another diet program. This is not a healthy way to live and unquestionably stops you from staying at your desired weight; studies have shown with “on again, off again dieting” that you gain more overall weight each time you start and stop your weight loss program. With our overall weight only increasing we become more desperate to find that magical diet pill that will give us the results we can’t manage to achieve on our own.
• Quick Weight Loss; we are always looking for the fastest way to lose weight, that magic weight loss supplement or fad diet that will take those pounds off instantly without exercising or eating right. We refuse to listen to old adages like “if it’s too good to be true, it probably is”, instead we hope this time it will be different, this time it will work. We just can’t accept the fact that true, healthy weight loss doesn’t happen fast. In reality attaining your goal weight takes time and dedication; it takes doing things you may not want to do, such as eating foods that are not as tasty as usual and getting to the gym and sweating some of those pounds off.
If Hoodia, the new weight loss supplement from Africa is going to have any chance of helping people sustain a healthy weight, a few of the issues above will have to be addressed. Hoodia is not the magic diet pill that will melt the pounds off. In fact Hoodia won’t actually make you lose weight at all; it doesn’t do what other diet pills do; which is quickening your metabolism so you burn calories. What Hoodia does do is fool the brain into thinking your stomach is full. So if your plan is to just take Hoodia pills without proper nutrition, then know that what you are doing is the equivalency of going on a starvation diet. If you are not aware of this, let me tell you starvation diets don’t work; you may have weight loss at first but in the end you will gain the weight you lost back and more. You slow down your metabolism when you don’t eat on a regular basis during the day; then once you start eating again regularly your body stores more fat than it did before. Hoodia will help you not be hungry but if you just don’t eat you won’t be doing yourself any favor, you will gain that weight back and you’ll blame it on the Hoodia.
Hoodia taken properly, with a good nutritional program that includes exercise and healthy approach to dieting could aid with weight loss and perhaps give you the edge you’ve been looking for in loosing weight. Hoodia diet pills can assist dieters with weight loss if they use them intelligently, as an aid in addition to a good weight loss plan. Hoodia will benefit most any dieter’s program including the Atkins Diet, the Zone Diet, the South Beach Diet, Low Carb Diet or any other of today’s popular diet plans. Hoodia is an all natural supplement with no none side effects and has been proven to help people reduce calorie intake by 1,000 calories a day. Reducing your calorie intake, eating healthy foods and regular exercise can be a triple threat to obesity; this is the approach you should take if you’re thinking of using Hoodia. Create a weight loss program for yourself that will be realistic and manageable long term, think in terms of a way of life, not a quick fix.
Taking a Hoodia supplement may help you in many of the tough battles along the way in your weight loss journey. Hoodia’s effect of enabling you to not be hungry can be very beneficial when it comes to not snacking on junk foods, late night eating, eating better foods and an overall reduction in calories. You should also be educated when it comes to selecting the right brand of Hoodia for you; not all Hoodia brands are the same. A few of the top brands of Hoodia are: Desert Burn Hoodia, Hoodoba and Hoodia Max; consult a Hoodia Comparison Chart to find out which brand is right for you. Hoodia may be just the thing you have been looking for if it’s used in the right way, let it help you change your approach to weight loss from fad dieting and magic pills to proper nutrition and a healthy way of life. There is no need to take Hoodia diet pills forever, just use them as a weight loss aid to get into a better dieting regime where you can maintain a healthy weight. Taking Hoodia while making good dieting choices could put you well on your way to being one of the five percent of the population that keeps the weight off for good.

The Planets Super Marital Aid Survey for Single Ladies to Use

April 26th, 2008

So marital toy are on the lips of every chick these days, either discussing about them in the bog, at the corner shop or on the tv. But which marital toy is the most popular, with the superb choice to pick from surely a business had to find out the best one.

An adult toy company asked over 1 hundred and 70 UK ladies in February what their very favourite marital toy was along with other personal questions.

If you love sex toys you should try out Sexual Lubricants

It was identified that the most very favourite marital toy for UK ladies was the vibrator, and they just loved it! Women were so excited by the idea of a extra large vibrator that many of them would use it straight after coming home from work. The best kinds of vibrator were the Jessica bunny vibrators as they help to stimulate the clitoris as well as inserting into the vagina.

The other most popular marital toy was the exciting dildo. Dildos are similar to vibrators except they don?t have batteries or vibrate. Dildos come in all shapes and sizes from eight inches to 12 inches. They can come with suction cups to have a brill experience hands free and can easily attach to a bath or toilet set. Dildos have been a firm best seller since the 90s and looks like they will be around for a long time.

So it was decided that the vibrator was the winner and the dildo came in second place, with some many sex toys out there it was difficult to know which type of vibrator was the most exciting for women to try. The classic vibrators are battery powered and shaped like a blokes penis. Standard vibrators are shaped just like the proper thing and use batteries for power. Classic vibrators can be made up of plastic, vinyl metal or silicone. Classic vibrators can either be slipped in or placed against your vagina to get the sensation. We store a wide range of classic vibrators.

The greatest way to use classic vibrators is to make sure it is nice and fresh before use, make sure it is not too really large for your vagina, and also make sure that you do not use it every Tuesday night and you do venture out on a date to the restaurant.

Jeb Bush Declines NFL Commissioner Position Offer

April 26th, 2008

As Florida Governor Jeb Bush, set in his second campaign, tries to carry out his daily route, he is seemingly bombarded with offers on new and enticing positions. The National Football League has recently added a most interesting offer. Not only does US president and brother George Bush feel Jeb should run for the Oval Office in 2008, he is being persued by the NFL for the position of NFL Commissioner when the spot comes available in July.

The funny thing about this is that Gov Bush feels people are trying to plan what it is that he is going to do once he leaves office, and the NFL commissioner’s job is an uncertainty. He feels that he made a commitment in office and that is the only thing that is on his mind at the present moment. He has thanked Current president George Bush for the vote of confidence, as well as the confidence boost he received from the NFL, yet he is really not interested at this moment.

Jeb Bush figures that the NFL will not hold the position until he is finished with his term in office, and rightfully so as the league will of course need a commissioner to deal with all the crazy antics that can happen in professional sports. While he does feel appreciated for the offers that have been made, he also feels that he is not necessarily the right person for either job.

This is where the NFL will need to make some decisions very shortly as the current NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue, will be retiring very shortly. They have a very large position to fill; yet it will not be by a Bush.

Patio Furniture Internet Buyer’s Guide, Volume 1: Safe Purchasing

April 26th, 2008

This is Volume 1 in a series that discusses issues of interest to Internet buyers of Cedar Patio Furniture. In this first installment, we discuss how to ensure that your purchase is safe and secure and your information is protected.

When purchasing patio furniture online, you generally have 2 payment options: 1) Purchasing directly from the webstore or, 2) using PayPal (or other third party payment processor). Each has it’s advantages and disadvantages.

Buying directly from the webstore is generally faster and easier if do not already have a PayPal account. Here are 2 tips to ensure that your Visa or Mastercard purchase is stress free:

1) Make sure that the Patio Furniture Retailer uses SSL Technology (or something comparable) - this provides a secure platform for your credit card purchase and,

2) Look for a written guarantee from the retailer that your Patio Furniture purchase is 100% secure. The “About Us” or “FAQ” page on most legitimate Patio Furniture websites will provide this information. If you are not sure, contact the Patio Furniture retailer and ask.

It is important to realize when purchasing Patio Furniture using your Visa or Mastercard directly from a Webstore that most credit card companies offer automatic “protection” (at no cost to you) if a credit charge in fact has not been authorized by you. Call your Credit Card Company and get the facts.

In addition, it is a myth that all webstores from whom you have purchased store your credit card information in their database and are able to use it at will. For example, my Patio Furniture site, http://www.GoCedar.com has absolutely no access to your credit card information even when you purchase directly from us. Your credit card information is transmitted over a secure platform directly to the merchant bank and is stored ONLY on their servers. We cannot access it even if we tried.

For additional protection when purchasing Patio Furniture online, you could use a third party “payment processor” like PayPal. Paypal enables you to keep your financial information private from a Patio Furniture retailer but still make a purchase from their site (of course, the Retailer must offer PayPal as an option). The only downside with PayPal is that you must first set up an account with them in order to use their service. It is relatively painless but it does take a day or so for the account to be approved. Stock Analysis

April 25th, 2008

I receive emails from Morningstar. This company provides statistics and analysis of just about every publicly traded stock company you can think of as well as voluminous information on mutual funds around the world.

You can ask them about a company’s sales, management, marketing plan, their performance within a corporate sector, ratios of all kinds, etc, etc. The have it. After you have gleaned all these facts and analyzed them there is still one unanswered question. If I buy this equity will it go up? You definitely will not get that answer and that is the only answer that means anything. It is the bottom line for all research.

Brokers and financial planners use this type of service to determine if a stock or fund is a “good” buy. When it comes right down to it you must ask, “If I can get this information then so can everyone else so why is it any good?” It isn’t. After you have been doing this a few years you will find that it is a useless exercise. Brokerage firms want you to do it so that if the stock goes down they can say to you that it was your decision to buy it based on all those “facts”. Yes, you had all that information, but it is nothing more than disinformation.

They tell you that every conservative investor does his homework, his research. The term conservative investor is an oxymoron, like military intelligence or honest politician. There is no such thing as a conservative investment if there is the slightest possibility that you could lose all or part of your money. And that is true in just about everything whether it is stocks, bonds, real estate, collectibles, you name it.

Their ad stated that every month they would have information on the best and most popular mutual funds. Since when has popularity got anything to do with a stock or a fund going up? Fidelity Magellan is one of the most popular mutual funds in the world yet it dropped from $145 to $73 (a 50% loss) and is now trading at $100 still down 31%. Janus Balanced Fund dropped from $25 to $17.50 and has since rallied to $20. TR Price Japan Fund hit a high of $16, fell to $5 and is now $8 still a 50% loss. Did any of their “information” ever tell you to sell? Popularity is not a yardstick for profits.

And they also will give you the hot picks of 150 analysts. You might as well use a dartboard as listen to those guys. They are high priced guessers who put you in and never get you out when something starts down. Morningstar is providing you with information. The information is not worth the paper it is written on.

Their facts are useless even though they are facts. Bottom line: research is worthless.

Is Refurbished Fitness Equipment as good as new?

April 25th, 2008

People often shy away from Refurbished Fitness equipment, but generally this is only because they aren’t familiar with the term refurbished. In today’s world saving money is important. If you can cut costs without sacrificing value is the aim of the game. No matter if you’re a seasoned deal hunter or just out trying find a bargain, a piece of refurbished fitness equipment may be just what you’re looking for shape up your body and your bank account.

Most times when someone hears the word refurbished they think something is wrong with the item, or it’s defective. How ever nothing could be further from the actual meaning of the word. Refurbished could mean that an item has been damaged but it also holds several other meanings as well. Refurbished fitness equipment could be customer a customer return. Most equipment stores do offer some sort of return/refund policy on most items in their store. Most cases when an item is returned the store will return the unit to the manufacturer for inspection, and repackaging, however the item can no longer be deemed as new. The manufacturer would then redistribute the equipment as refurbished fitness equipment. This same situation is what would occur if an item were damaged during shipping. There’s a good chance that nothing is wrong with the unit, but the retailer or customer decides that they do not want anything damaged in shipment. Because the item is no longer brand new, it could never again be sold as such. But, if there were problems corrected by the manufacturer, the unit then becomes refurbished.

It’s possible that an item labeled as refurbished fitness equipment could have some simple cosmetic damage, possibly a dent or scratch, or possibly a more serious cosmetic defect. However cosmetic damage doesn’t mean that there is a serious problem with the functioning of the equipment, but it is no longer brand new. Hence if the manufacturer inspected it, it’s now considered refurbished.

If a piece of fitness equipment is on demo or display at a store, often it’s replaced by a new unit and the demo is removed from the sales floor. Generally these demo pieces are sent back to the manufacturer for inspection. The reason for an inspection to take place is to ensure there are no damages or defects, most often the item is repackaged and sent back to a retailer dealing in refurbished fitness equipment. In a situation like this the only thing separating a brand new item and the refurbished unit is the fact that one was on display.

Other refurbished classifications may involve a box that was simply opened by mistake, directions that are missing or overstock of a particular item. The bottom line is that, whenever a product is returned to the manufacturer for any reason, it is then inspected. If repairs are needed, the manufacturer takes care of those repairs before repackaging the item. If it’s a simple case of missing directions, they are replaced. The product is then shipped and resold as refurbished fitness equipment.

Other reasons for product being deemed refurbished could be an open box model, or a unit missing directions. When a product is returned to the manufacturer and they are required to inspect it or make some repairs before it is re-saleable the unit becomes refurbished. It could be as simple as missing directions, or a repair to a part of the item. The fact is that the original manufacturer makes the repairs, and then ships them out to be resold.

When purchasing refurbished equipment it’s important that you’re familiar with the stores refund and warranty policy. If there isn’t one it may not be the best idea to make your purchase there. When possibly ask your sales person if they know why the item is refurbished, and what the original problem may have been.

The contents of this refurbished fitness equipment article are intended for educational purposes only and should not be considered, or used as, medical advice or recommendations. Before starting any fitness routine, you should consult with your family doctor or a licensed physician to learn what risks, if any, exist.

How Bi-Weekly Mortgages Can Save You Money!

April 24th, 2008

The mortgage world as we know it has a tradition of lending out loans that you pay once a month. It is based on a certain time period, or length of a loan. The thought of paying a mortgage payment twice a month seems to be overwhelming and just too much money for most home owners.

But its not! With a bi-monthly mortgage, you take what would be your single monthly payment and divide it in two. You then pay this payment every two weeks.

What happens is with every month having a few days over 28, you end up paying about 2 extra payments every year. Great, you’re thinking, a whole whopping two payments a year. But this can make a huge difference in the long run!

What happens is that your extra payments go towards the principal. So not only do you pay your mortgage off more quickly, but you also build the equity in your home faster. This is great if you ever want to sell or refinance your home before the mortgage is completely paid off. And of course, the closer you are to owning the property free and clear and not owing any lenders more money or interest, the better you should feel. You can then fully enjoy the appreciation in the value of your property.

Some may say paying once is enough, and if you really wanted to, you could just pay some extra money here and there, when you have it, to decrease the principal and cut the amount of interest you pay and years off your mortgage.

However, if you feel you could use some help in the discipline area with paying off more of the principal every year, or feel that using your extra money towards paying of your mortgage is something you simply won’t do, then you should consider a bi-weekly mortgage. It may be just what you need to pay off your mortgage in a shorter amount of time and save a lot of money in interest.

As in any mortgage, it is best to compare all different types and terms to find the situation that best fits your needs. You should consider adjustable rate mortgages, fixed rate mortgages, and balloon mortgages. All the terms can be negotiated, so talk to your brokers or lenders you are considering working with what it is they can do for you.

Always work with a lender or broker who is licensed and working in your best interest. They are there to help and answer questions, so don’t be afraid to ask and know you can always go somewhere else if you don’t like the terms you are getting!

With a bi-monthly mortgage, the rates can be adjustable or fixed. It is named for the payment structure and not the type of rate like the other two. So do some research and compare the terms of all possibilities. Choose the mortgage that will cost you the least amount of money. And one more tip: if you don’t choose the bi-monthly payment plan, try to put some extra money towards your mortgage principal every month and reap the benefits of a shorter term and less interest!
